My First Smoothie Bowl
Smoothies are a great way to get a ton of a nutrition into your diet, but sometimes it is fun to actually eat your food (rather than drink it). Who ever created the smoothie bowl was a pure genius, and obviously was sick of drinking their meals. Smoothie bowls are a thick (sorbet like texture) smoothie, topped with crunchy goodness and eaten with a spoon I love me some smoothies, so trying a smoothie bowl was an easy decision for me.

What you will need: Any smoothie recipe will work, you will just need to decrease the fluid content of the recipe so that the texture is a little thicker. You will also need a high speed blender that can handle frozen fruit concoctions.
Here is what I used:
3/4 cup almond milk
Handful of cilantro leaves (why cilantro? because it is an excellent source of antioxidants, Vitamin C and iron)
Juice and zest of 1 lemon (great source of vitamin C)
Quarter size piece of ginger (helps the lymphatic system and boosts immune function)
Mix with high speed blender almond milk, cilantro, lemon and ginger (about 1 minute)- then add:
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen mango chunks
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (I used my hemp protein powder)
Mix with high speed blender until mixture becomes thick and creamy like sorbet.
Scoop into a bowl then top with:
Unsweetened coconut
1 tablespoon chia seeds
Goji berries
Grab a spoon and dig in!
