Top Health and Wellness Trends of 2019

This article highlights some of the top health trends in 2019. I wanted to shed some light on some of the items mentioned in the article and how I have applied them to my life.

Ayurveda (in Sanskrit means “knowledge of life”): It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vibrant and healthy while realizing their full human potential. I first learned of Ayurveda when I was studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I was quickly drawn to it as it hits home with me and my mission. More Sleep: A lot of people are lacking in the sleep department, especially new moms. I am learning a lot about hormones, and how they drive our sleep patterns, and circadian rhythms. I know that if you are stressed, or have lived through stressful situations (ummm who hasn’t) your normal hormone function can get disrupted, leading to altered sleep patterns. I know this much. Sleep is important, rather it is vital to our wellness. I take sleep very seriously in our house. My kids were sleep trained from a young age, and my husband and I go to sleep at the same time every night. We aim for 7 hours of sleep a night, and always have a diffuser by our bed with essential oils that help to promote relaxation, and sound sleep. Mental Health: Did you know May is mental health awareness month? I made it a priority for myself this year to bring my mental health to the forefront of my goals, because I understand that to be fully healthy, my mind needs to come first. I take time every day to focus on my mental health, and I also found a holistic counselor to help me navigate the grieving process. It has been amazing. I am a better person for going, and so proud of myself for investing in my mental health.

Body Positivity: Need I say more? I love that this movement is gaining popularity.
